2007 VW GTI, are they more reliable cars now?

I have 2001 GTI VR6. I have had ten recalls and TONS of problems with this car..several of them were expensive to fix. I am told, however, that since 2004, VW has been working very hard on the reliability of their cars, even the GTI. Is this true? Are they more reliable now? The new GTI is a 4 cyl turbo (no more VR6s in the US.) I test drove it today. Man, SWEET ride. Comfy bucket seats w/ lumbar support, smooth turbo, very little road noise. It rides like a dream…and it has some guts, baby. I just dont want another GTI that’s gonna give me alotta problems. Anybody know anything more specific, please let me know.

The new GTI is a perfect car.

Your 2001 VR6, I think was made in Mexico.

If I am correct, all the new Golfs/Rabbits are Made in Germany(Hurray!), and it shows.

There isn’t enough data on the new one, but there hasn’t been any good news regarding VW reliability for years, so why take a chance? I’ve read the reviews, I’m sure it’s a great car when it’s not in the shop, but for my money I’d get a Civic Si. Not quite as fast, but cheaper and it’ll be much more reliable. If you want faster you could also consider a WRX or Mazdaspeed3, but the Honda will trump them all when it comes to reliability and resale.

    good luck!

I personally took one of the new MK5 GTI’s apart. The subframe bolts come loose, water in the rear panels, and even duct tape on the interior. I would still rather have one than a Civic Si.

VW stopped making cars in 1992. And VW’s hold there value better than Honduhs

You either like it or you don’t and all the consumer frickin reports in the world can’t identify or quantify a FUN car.

You want one- get one and tell the world to Piff-Off.

Me I am so angry that VW closed the Westmoreland, PA Factory that I will never again by a new one. However I find that I can cherry pick used ones and keep my racing jones satisfied.
