Is a $5K settlement too little for two herniated lumbar disks?
The department store had hangers piled between clothing racks that were pushed close together so I couldn’t see the floor. No, I didn’t walk where I shouldn’t have. The isle was so you could browse the clothes on the two racks. I stepped into the pile of hangers, couldn’t get my footing because of the mass amount of hangers and took a bad fall. Two herniated lumbar disks later and my quality of life is severely effected, might need surgery, medical bills, MRI reports that support the injury is from trauma, along with the doctor saying it isn’t degenerative, and the store wants to settle for K. I’m thinking it should be a lot more than that. My attorney wanted to settle for K max but I disagreed and he withdrew from the case. I’m in my 50s, a little heavy but fit and didn’t have back trouble before this fall. What do you think?

That’s crazy and you know that. What is your health worth? You could end up being in pain for most of your life. I have no idea what you should get but you should at least get enough that you can live off the interest and pay your medical bills. I think one million at least.
Take the offer and be happy. This isn’t the lottery. Take some personal responsibility, you already admitted to stepping where you shouldn’t.
5k won’t even begin to cover the hospital bills. 25k is about right.
I think you made a big mistake having no attorney. Either get a new attorney or take what you can get while you still can.
I would find another lawyer and see if they could get you more. Two herniated discs is not fun to live with because I have one myself and I also may need an operation, so I know what you are going through. The store should be covering any and all medical bills and money for time off of work and lawyer fees. I would think somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000 would be a lot better for you.
get another lawyer, the first one seemed to be looking for a quick settlement, instead of your best interests. I wouldn’t focus too much on the money, a good lawyer will focus on your quality of life, right now and in the future. In years to come this can cause excruciating pain, an affect your mobility, which may require canes / a walker or a / scooter.in future.
a scooter alone can run $3000.00 Can. Put herniated lumbar discs, in your search engine, to Discover, what it can involve, treatments and outcomes etc.
