How to PREVENT getting Lumbar Strains (lower back pain)?

I constantly injure my lower back muscles….. i just injured it couple hour ago doing squats with weights.

other people never really injure their backs, but i am pretty much plagued with back pain. i JUST recovered from a previous one that had been there for 5 months while i was on my highschool football team.

I know i need to rest, but how can i prevent injurying it easily? i constantly have to protect my back for fears of injuring it.

Well, first off, once you injure your back, you are MUCH more likely to re-injure it, so forget about the people whom have never had bad problems. As for not re-injuring it: A. Let it heal, stop doing back-intensive weight lifting. B. Like the other guy said, lift correctly. ALWAYS. and C. Try what I do: Every morning: Hot shower, especially on lower back. And then do 30 crunches, followed by 30 reverse crunches, (lift legs over head, while lying on back). This is all to make sure your lower back is warmed up and stretched out first thing in the morning. I repeat: this is just stretching, it’s not supposed to be a real workout.

Use proper body mechanics when lifting, and never lift more than you can handle.

Strenthen ur back muscles with some spine strenthening exercises only if the pain is not there,u should turn to ur side and get up from bed so that u dont strain ur back, avoid bending down to do work,Bed rest and medication is also important.

    Hi Benchwarmer,

I feel and know your pain. I suffered with back pain for years and the only thing that finally worked for me were some exercises that strengthened my core muscles.

Use the right type of back strengthening exercises and your back pain will go away. Check out the link below for some simple back exercises you can do at home that will have you pain free in no time.

    Good luck.

Hi, I have scoliosis so I definitely understand back pain. If you need a REAL solution – I recommend "Back In Shape" you can find it here: http://www.howtohealmyback.com – the guy who wrote the book suffered from a herniated disc and cured himself without surgery! It’s pretty amazing actually. The book will change your life.
